Solar Grids Lanier is named after Lake Lanier, a reservoir in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created by the completion of Buford Dam in 1956. The Solar Grids Lanier area includes the cities of Alpharetta, Cumming, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, Dawsonville, and Dahlonega.

The historic Pool's Mill Covered Bridge, constructed in 1906 crosses Settendown Creek and is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
