Nw indiana
As part of the Chicago metropolitan area, NW Indiana consists of Lake, Porter, La Porte, Newton and Jasper counties, a region neighboring Lake Michigan. It is the state's second largest urban area after Indianapolis.

NW Indiana is commonly nicknamed "The Region", after the "Calumet Region", a river and canal region between Chicago and Gary.
The character of Toto, the dog from “The Wizard of Oz”, got his name from the shopping center of Starke County, where the author was living when he wrote the book.
The founder of one of the world’s most famous medical destinations, Mayo Clinic, was a La Porte medical school graduate.
